New Mexico’s 2nd Annual Celebration of World Music and Culture
Weeklong, Statewide Events Capped by September 23-24, 2006 Festival Weekend

Albuquerque, N.M. ¡Globalquerque! - New Mexico’s 2nd Annual Celebration of World Music and Culture, expands this year with an ambitious weeklong schedule of events spanning the entire state, culminating in a three-stage, two-day festival on Saturday and Sunday, September 23-34, 2006 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) in Albuquerque.
The weeklong celebration and festival, with educational workshops, community outreach events, foreign films, a global village and the best in world music, is both a destination event for tourists and a major entertainment and community activity for residents of the city, state and region. The Albuquerque Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (ACVB) has designated ¡Globalquerque! one of only a handful of 2006 Tier 1 Events, and the festival is also a featured City of Albuquerque Tricentennial event.
¡Globalquerque! will present a wide range of artists from around the world, including representative performers from New Mexico’s varied Hispanic and Native American musical traditions. To date, the festival has confirmed appearances by:

Ø ¡Globalquerque!: New Mexico’s Annual Celebration of World Music and Culture.
· Evening Programming: Saturday and Sunday September 23 & 24, 2006
A ticketed music festival event beginning at 6PM each night (doors at 5 PM) featuring performances by approximately seventeen groups on three stages spanning two nights A staggered schedule will allow attendees to sample the broadest range of performances on all stages.
· FREE Day programming Saturday and Sunday Afternoon
§ Saturday September 23 (12 PM – 4 PM): family-focused entertainment including music, street performers, instrument making, a World Game Tent, International Dance Classes (African, Brazilian, Belly Dance, Hula and more), workshops on international music and culture, plus the Global Village.
§ Sunday September 24 (12 PM – 4 PM): Instrument and Voice Workshops, including accordion, fiddle, throat singing, and more (16 years old and up), International Dance Classes, entertainment and educational workshops on international music and culture, plus the Global Village. (Please note: while free, pre-registration is required for workshops as size is limited).
Ø A Global Village with food, music and crafts from Albuquerque’s diverse local ethnic communities and beyond running during both the free daytime and evening ticketed events.
Ø A Global Village stage featuring free daytime performances and workshops.
Ø Screenings of films at 3:30 each day in the NHCC Theater will bridge the free daytime activities and evening ticketed performances on September 23-24, 2006.
Ø ¡Globalquerque! at The Guild - September 15-21, 2006 A weeklong international film and video series at Albuquerque’s Guild Cinema.
Ø ¡Globalquerque! In Old Town - Wednesday September 20 – Old Town Plaza featuring two local world music acts
Ø ¡Globalquerque! In Santa Fe - Friday, September 22 A preview concert event at The Lensic Theater in Santa Fe in partnership with the first New Mexico World Peace Conference, featuring 2006 festival artists Kiran Ahluwalia, Charanga Cakewalk and Albuquerque’s own flamenco dance troupe and 2005 ¡Globalquerque! performers, Yjastros.
Ø Pre-festival concerts with Slonovski Bal at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces on Thursday, September 21, and San Juan College in Farmington on Friday, September 22.
