Governor Richardson Announces CDs for Troops
Asks Everyone to Donate Music to Our Troops Overseas

Santa Fe: They are half a world away, but here's your chance to bring a bit of the comforts of home to our New Mexico troops serving overseas. The New Mexico Music Commission is working with "Music New Mexico Style" and veterans groups throughout the state, to collect CD's for our troops for the holidays.

"This is a great way of helping New Mexicans who are spending the holidays so far from home, and in the VA hospital here in New Mexico," said Governor Bill Richardson. “I want every New Mexican to donate a CD so that our New Mexico troops overseas will know how much we appreciate their service to our nation. I want to commend Anthony Segura and the New Mexico Music Commission for giving us all a way to show our thanks to our troops during the holidays,” Governor Richardson said.

"When I was overseas with the Air Force, it was nice to have New Mexico music to make me feel at home," said Anthony Segura who came up with the idea to send music to the troops. Segura and his twin brother Victor, who is currently serving in Afghanistan, started the donation drive last year in Albuquerque. Residents and musicians donated more than 750 CD's for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as veterans at the VA Hospital. This year, the New Mexico Music Commission is working with the Seguras, and expanding the collection STATEWIDE.

Starting today, you can drop off a new CD at participating music stores throughout New Mexico. Disabled Veterans of New Mexico will pick them up. Department of New Mexico - Military order of the Purple Hearts is paying for the shipment of the CD's to troops overseas.

Segura's brother Victor will distribute the CD's to New Mexico troops in Afghanistan . New Mexican Candy Aragon, who is currently serving in Iraq, will distribute the CD's to troops serving there.
